The European Union is introducing new rules that will further standardize and regulate external power supplies, aiming to reduce electronic waste and improve energy efficiency across the market.

Beginning at the end of 2028, all external power supplies up to 240W sold within the EU will be required to:

  • Include a USB-C output port

  • Feature a detachable cable

  • Meet new energy efficiency criteria, even when operating at low loads

Unified Label: “EU Common Charger”

All compliant adapters will carry a unified label — “EU Common Charger” — which will display essential information such as:

  • Maximum output power

  • Energy efficiency level

  • Durability

  • Repairability

This standardized labeling system will make it easier for consumers to identify compatible and sustainable chargers while promoting transparency and informed purchasing decisions.

Environmental Impact

According to estimates by the European Commission, the new regulations could reduce charger energy consumption by around 3% and cut greenhouse gas emissions by 9% across the EU.

The initiative builds on previous USB-C standardization measures and aims to create a more sustainable electronics ecosystem, minimizing unnecessary waste and promoting longer product lifecycles.

Transition and Exceptions

This year Apple unveiled seven new products, including the most powerful iPhone ever, the thinnest iPhone ever and finally a 120Hz display on the base iPhone.
 In addition the AirPods Pro 3 can now measure your heart rate and the latest Apple Watch models feature 5G connectivity for the first time.

The first announcement came as new earbuds. The AirPods Pro 3 have an upgraded active noise cancellation system that is twice as effective as before, up to 8 hours of battery life and a built-in heart rate sensor that can track 15 workout types.

The design is mostly unchanged, but Apple added IP57 dust and water resistance and a live translation feature that can be useful when traveling.
Official price starts at $249.

The Apple Watch SE 3 is now the most affordable Apple Watch with the S10 chip, Always-On display, Double Tap gesture, fast charging and, for the first time, 5G support.
 It also adds health features such as wrist temperature sensing, ovulation tracking, sleep apnea detection and a sleep score to evaluate sleep quality.
 Available in 40mm and 44mm sizes, starting at $249.

The Apple Watch Series 11 brings larger upgrades. A new sensor can detect early signs of high blood pressure, there is 5G support, twice-as-strong glass and up to 24 hours of battery life.
 Prices start at $399.

The top-tier Apple Watch Ultra 3 has a larger, brighter display with thinner bezels, 42 hours of normal battery life, satellite messaging and SOS, plus the same new blood pressure sensor.
 It is priced at $799, the same as the new iPhone 17

Now things get exciting. The base iPhone 17 finally moves to 120Hz with a display that can scale down to 1Hz for better power efficiency. Brightness increases from 2000 to 3000 nits and the screen grows to 6.3 inches.

Inside, the new A19 chip delivers about 20% more speed than the A18 and base storage doubles to 256GB, so 128GB is no longer available.
The main camera remains 48MP, but the ultra-wide is now a 48MP sensor from the Pro models. The front camera also gets major upgrades shared with the Pro lineup.

Despite these improvements the U.S. price stays at $799, matching last year’s iPhone 16 with half the storage.

iPhone Air

The biggest surprise came after the iPhone 17 reveal. The iPhone Air is Apple’s thinnest phone yet at just 5.6mm, and it is the only model this year built from titanium.
It features an OLED ProMotion display with a 1–120Hz refresh rate, 3000 nits of brightness and a seven-layer anti-reflective coating similar to Samsung’s flagship screens.

On the back there is a single 48MP camera that offers 2x lossless zoom. The 18MP front camera introduces a new dual-recording mode that captures video from both front and rear cameras at once.
 Powered by the A19 Pro chip, it has a 3150mAh battery, and Apple claims up to 40 hours of use when paired with the new MagSafe external battery, made exclusively for iPhone Air.

It will be sold globally with eSIM only, starting at $999 for 256GB.

For the Pro lineup Apple focused on design, cameras and performance. The frame is now aluminum instead of titanium and the camera module spans the full width of the phone, creating a bold look. The new orange finish stands out, although there are only three color options.
All three rear cameras use 48MP sensors. The telephoto lens offers 4x optical zoom, and thanks to the larger sensor Apple claims up to 8x lossless zoom — a claim reviewers will test soon. The front camera uses an 18MP square-matrix sensor. This allows horizontal video and photos while holding the phone vertically, and it can automatically widen the frame when someone enters the shot.

Under the hood, the A19 Pro chip is up to 40% faster than before and includes a vapor-chamber cooling system.
Battery capacities improved as well:

  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: 5088mAh (eSIM) or 4823mAh (SIM), up to 39 hours of video playback.
    iPhone 17 Pro: 4252mAh (eSIM) or 3998mAh (SIM).
    Pricing starts at $1,099 for iPhone 17 Pro (256GB) and $1,199 for iPhone 17 Pro Max (256GB).
    In 2025 Apple’s lineup feels more balanced than ever, with real upgrades, stronger specs and competitive prices.
